David Kordansky Gallery is pleased to present An American Beauty: Grateful Dead 1965–1995, an exhibition of photographs of the iconic psychedelic rock band curated by photographer Jay Blakesberg and his daughter, Ricki Blakesberg. Timed to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the band, as well as the release of a major new publication of the same name, the show will be on view in Los Angeles at 5130 W. Edgewood Pl through August 16, 2025. The coffee table book will be available at shop.davidkordanskygallery.com, and will be officially released on August 1 in honor of Jerry Garcia’s birthday.

Set to go live online and via social media at 6pm Thursday, Irish rap group Kneecap share a short film, in advance of their 2025 Glastonbury set, calling urgent attention to the genocide in Gaza. The project unites a powerful coalition of visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, producers and activists using their platforms in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Artist interpretations as well as interviews with doctors and activists centre the human cost of Israel’s military campaign and the international complicity that sustains it.    

We are so into this new project where Jonathan Zawada has art directed the visuals for the musical collaboration of Mark Pritchard and Thom Yorke’s new album, Tall Tales. Zawada has directed the video for the new single, “This Conversation is Missing Your Voice,” after doing the video work for the single, “Back in the Game.”

After their stellar 2016 collaboration “Beautiful People”, Radiohead/The Smile’s Thom Yorke has once again teamed with Mark Pritchard for a new track and video, “Back In the Game.” The video was directed by old Juxtapoz friend, Jonathan Zawada, who we featured in our print issue #127. Enjoy! 

The exhibition Alice Coltrane, Monument Eternal is inspired by the life and legacy of jazz musician, devotional leader, and mother Alice Coltrane. The title takes its name from her book Monument Eternal (1977), which reflected her newfound spiritual beliefs; the loss of her husband, the saxophonist John Coltrane; and the path to healing and self-discovery. The exhibition presents works by contemporary American artists paired with ephemera from Coltrane’s personal archive. Featuring a range of mediums including video, installation, performance, and sculpture together with Coltrane’s archival handwritten sheet music, unreleased audio recordings, and rarely seen video footage, Alice Coltrane, Monument Eternal explores themes including spiritual transcendence, sonic innovation, and architectural intimacy to honor Coltrane’s cultural output and practice.

For the 20th anniversary of the landmark and iconic MF DOOM album, MM..FOOD, a video for the track “Vomitspit” has been directed, animated and composed by Saber. Enjoy. 

We always have a blast at the Aftershock Music Festival, and this year was no different. Held over four days this last weekend from October 10-13, and drawing a record-breaking crowd of somewhere around 160,000 attendees, the festival has become a gigantic success.

We’ve worked with Danny Wimmer Presents and the Aftershock Festival for many years now and are once again super excited to spend next weekend at Discovery Park in Sacramento. Aftershock makes for a great segue from the longer days of Summer into Fall and we can’t wait to see how it all goes down again next weekend. Tickets are still available in limited quantities. “This is an interesting and intimidating challenge …!”, Thom Yorke of Radiohead wrote today about an ambitious project: taking the 2003 album Hail to the Thief and adapting it for a new production of Hamlet. The project is called Hamlet Hail to the Thief, featuring William Shakespeare’s iconic text along with the songs of Hail to the Thief, which Yorke has orchestrated and “remolded” for 20 musicians and actors. Per the press release from the band, “Thom has worked with designer & director Christine Jones and director & choreographer Steven Hoggett to create a new adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The songs from Hail To The Thief have been deconstructed and remoulded into a score to serve the play, to be performed by live…

We are excited today to premiere the new video for the Jesus Lizard’s “Falling Down”, from the new album, RACK, created by our old friend, Bill Barminski. The artist said of the collaboration, “We all come from the same place and there seems to be a bond between people who were there. So when Duane asked me to do this video I naturally said yes. It’s all hand drawn cell animation that I have been experimenting with. Very kinetic and fast-paced, which matched the song very well.”
